View Article  Westerton Gala Day 2008
A very successful Annual Westerton Gala Day was held on the 30th August. The event kicked off with the Gala Queen Parade. The Gala Queen Louise Bishop and her five Flower Girls were transported along Maxwell Avensue in style, thanks to Porshes supplied by Glasgow Porshe. The procession was led by the Boys Brigade Band.

The events held in Westerton playing fields included archery, a giant 7-metre climbing wall, a giant bungee football match and whacky races. A packed hall hosted a craft fair, dance displays and clown show.
The events were attended by hundreds of people and were enjoyed by adults and children alike.

The Gala Day also raised funds for local, national and international charities, including
Afasic East Dunbartonshire, Meningitis Trust for Scotland and Westerton PrimarySchool’s
Malawi
link. Bearsden South Community Council provided funding to support the event.

Well done to the organisers!!

Photo competition

For all you snappers out there we are running a photo competition this year. There are two categories:

  • Summer Holiday
  • Wonderful Westerton

Entries – giving name and age if under 15 – can be submitted to 47 Stirling Ave or at Westerton Library.

Other summer events

Don’t forget other local events this summer:

Games evening – Friday 27th June, 6.30pm @ Church hall, Crarae Ave.

Potted sports – Saturday 26th July @ playing field at Westerton Hall.

New for 2008!

As well as the old favourites – like tug-o-war and whacky races – we’ve added new activities. A giant 7-metre climbing tower and pony rides are our new attractions for 2008 – so come along and join the fun. Wristbands for all day access to attractions will be on sale from noon for only £5.

The day will also include the first ever Westerton Wii Olympics. Will you be crowned the 2008 champion?

Helpers needed!

We have had lots of new people come on board - thank you all! If you can spare an hour or two in the run up, or on the day itself, it would be great to hear from you. We need shoppers, people to give stall holders a break and help set up on Fri eve/Sat am. Call Scott on 07504 131 693 or e-mail sheps@doctors.org.uk
